Tessellation Patterns Essay Example for Free

Tessellation Patterns EssayA tessellation is the filling of a plane with repetitions of figures in such a panache that no figures overlap and that there are no gaps (Billstein, Libeskind, Lott, 2010) . Tessellations can be created with a variety of figures, including triangles, squares, trapezoids, parallelograms, or hexagons. Tessellations use forms of transformations to show the repetitions of the figures. The transformations can includes translations, rotations, reflections or glided reflections. some(prenominal) student would be able to create their own original tessellation by piecing together a variety of geometric shapes in a repetitive soma by a transformation, either by hand or on a computer. The tessellation that I have created includes hexagons, squares, and triangles. I placed the squares and triangles around the hexagon to fill in the open spaces this is to ensure that it is a complete tessellation. I did that because I prepare it to be very eye catching and ad ding the colors makes it a visually exhilarating piece. This tessellation has the transformation of translation. Each shape is moved from one point to another in a straight line. The line can either be up or down, left to right, or even diagonally, but the shape itself is a copy of the original. The different colors of the hexagons allow you to see where the repetition occurs. Tessellations have been found in real-life. Soccer balls, plaid clothing, honey combs, and brick lying are examples of tessellations. One of my favorite things as a child was a kaleidoscope. This was a toy the when you held it the gay showed a tessellation and if you rotated the scope, the tessellation would change. It was a fascinating toy for a child and it introduced them to the idea of a tessellation without knowing about them. Tessellations are a visual fluff up and cause many of happy days in my childhood and hopefully will be that way for my children as well.ReferenceBillstein, R., Libeskind, S., Lot t, J. (2010). Reflective Essay About Moving And Handling Skill Nursing Essay

Reflective Essay About Moving And Handling Skill Nursing EssayThis thoughtful essay go away be about moving and handling skill, which took place during my placement where I was supposed to learn and practicalised my nursing skills. In describing the event, I give be using Gibbs glintive cycle (1988) (see appendix 1) to analyse my actions and feelings. For the purpose of confidentiality, the name of the service drug substance abuser and place where the event took place as been make anonymous (Nursing and Midwifery Council 2009).DescriptionI was on placement in a nursing home when my mentor asked me to transfer John from his bed to a wheel chair. John is 60 years old man, who suffered from osteoarthritis. Before I carried out the task, my mentor had explained to me what I drive to do when transferring a service user from the bed to the wheel chair. My mentor was also present at the scene to provide me with guidance and support as the procedure required more than whiz person. Whe n I approached John room I closed his door in order to maintain his dignity and privacy. Having done that, I obtained his consent and explained to him what I was outlet to do. However, I assessed the task ahead of me by completing a moving and handling assessment form. This enables me to provide for the appropriate equipment (wheelchair and overflowing body hoist sling) call for to transfer John. I ask my mentor to assist me to fix the sling on John, as the task required more than one c arr. I hence required John to tilt to one side of the bed so I washstand fix the sling under his body and the same knead was carried out by my mentor on the other side putting Johns independence into consideration. The full body sling hook was attached to the hoist affiliation and John was carefully transferred from the bed to the wheelchair with maximum care without causing him further pain. When John was finally comfortable on the wheelchair, I asked him if he had experienced all pain as a result of the transfer he replied that the task was perfectly executed.FeelingsAt first, I was nervous about causing John whatever further pain knowing that his osteoarthritis condition is severe. However, I was pleased that John was satisfied at the end with the way the task was carried out as he appraised our effort. In addition, I felt piteous for John knowing his condition could be very painful.EvaluationIt was good that I completed a moving and handling assessment form, as this enables me to transfer John with the appropriate equipment without causing him any pain. Dougherty and Lister (2009) postulated that the risk of injury to both carers and service users back end be reduced by fully assessing the task and identifying the right equipment and procedure. They further warn that moving service users in bed without using appropriate equipment can cause friction and shearing to their skin, which is a common cause of pressure ulcers. Haslam et al (2007) supports the above view a nd went on to say that for moving and handling to be considered successful, the carer needs to employ minimal effort and the service user needs to experience minimal discomfort. However, Iggulder et al (2009) affirmed that assessment of task and training are not sufficient on their own to minimise the incidence of back pain. I was also satisfied that I obtain Johns consent and explained to him what I was deprivation to do, which makes him to be cooperative throughout the task.Hogston and Simpson (2002) suggest that service users should be asked of their informed consent before administering any form of treatments to them. He further emphasised that this will allow the service users to have adequate information about their treatment and also promote a sense of independence. However, it was bad that I did not go personal restrictive equipment before carrying out the task. According to the Department of Health (DH 2006) and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (N ICE 2003) state that using protective equipment will reduce the risk of acquiring contamination from potentially infectious body fluids and transmitting microorganisms through hands or clothing. Health and Safety executive (2004) supports this and went on to say that disposable apron and gloves should be worn for all direct care procedures with service user when there is likelihood of contact with blood, secretions and excretions or body fluids.AnalysisThe Health and Safety Executive (HSE 2004) describe moving and handling as any transporting or supporting of a service user (including sliding, rolling and tilting) with suitable equipment and technique. As a result, I employ a full body hoist sling to transfer John to the wheelchair, due to his softness to stand on his both knees. Mandelstam (2003) affirmed that service users with painful knee injury such as osteoarthritis often have difficulty with mobility. Alternatively, I could have used a sliding board to transfer John as prop osed by Pellatt (2005), but the nursing home has not got such equipment available. I required John to tilt as much as possible in order to maintain his independence while I affixed the full body hoist sling round his body. Gibson (1991) explains that empowering service users has benefits which include positive self-concept, increased personal satisfaction, a sense of control and improved quality of life. I was satisfied to have adopted the appropriate technique and used the right equipment to transfer John, as my mentor was present to support and guide me throughout the procedure. olympian College of Nursing (RCN 2007) states that mentor is a key support for students in practice in order to facilitate competence for registration. On reflection, if the appropriate equipment had not been used to transfer John, he could have secured further injury. The Health and Safety Executive (2004) supports this view and states that service users are at risk of shoulder injury, musculoskeletal ov erturn and tissue injury from inappropriate lifting into the sitting or standing position, or lowering them into the sitting position. However, Chell (2003) warns that undertaking unsafe handling practice could be construed as a form of abuse.ConclusionJohn was comfortably transferred without causing him any further pain which was the initial motive. On reflection, there is nothing significant I could have done differently as regards to moving and handling skill, my mentor was present to provide me with guidance and support throughout the task. However, I need to reflect on similar situation and develop my moving and handling skills so that I can independently carry out such task should the need arise again. In addition, It is irresponsible for me to wear protective clothing during such task in order to prevent cross infection (DH 2006 and NICE 2003). process planIn future situation as such, I will ensure that the service user is transfer without causing him/her any form of injury. However, it is imperative for me to reflect on similar event and further develop my moving and handling skill by taking part in annually training. As this will facilitate a better practice in the future and also make me an independent expert practitioner (Benner 1984). In addition, should the situation come up again I ensure that I wear protective clothing, so as to protect myself and the service user against infectious diseases.

Consider a sinusoidal wave travelling on a string. The source of the energy is some external agent at the left end of the string, which does work in producing the oscillations. We can consider the string to be a non-isolated system. As the external agent performs work on the end of the string, moving it up and down, energy enters the system of the string and propagates along its length.Let us focus our attention on an element of the string of length and mass . Each element moves vertically with SHM. Thus, we can model each element of the string as simple harmonic oscillator (SHO), with the oscillation in the y direction. on the whole elements have the same angular frequency and the same amplitude A. The kinetic energy K associated with a moving particle isK= (20)If we apply this equation to an element of length and mass, we shall see that the kinetic energy of this element is (21) is the transverse speed of the element. If is the mass per unit length of the string, then the mass of the element of length is equal to. Hence, we can express the kinetic energy of an element of the string as (22)As the length of the element of the string shrinks to zero, this becomes a differential human relationship (23)Using the general transverse speed of a simple harmonic oscillator (24) (25) (26)If we take a snapshot of the wave at time t=0, then the kinetic energy of a given element is (27)Let us integrate this expression over all the string elements in a wavelength of the wave, which leave behind give us the total kinetic energy in one wavelength (28) (29) (30) (31) (32)NoteIn addition to kinetic energy, each element of the string has potential energy associated with it due to its displacement from the equilibrium position and the restoring forces from neighbouring elements. A similar analysis to that above for the total potential energy in one wavelength leave give exactly the same result (33)The total energy in one wavelength of the wave is the sum of the potential energy and kinetic energy (34) (35)As the wave moves along the string, this amount the energy passes by a given point on the string during a time interval of one period of the oscillation. The Use Of Abbreviations In Articles

The Use Of abbreviations In ArticlesThe purpose of this look is to investigate what abridgment means, what types of abbreviations appear and to state how their full forms differ in various style categories. To accomplish this goal theoretical seek and analysis of political articles were done. The result of the research showed that abbreviation means step-down and there are four types of abbreviations. The meaning of reductions depend on the context and language category where it is utilise.Kay words abbreviation, type, full form. launchingArticles, journals, newspapers and all other sources of written mass media is one of the most popular ways of getting information about the current events. While dealing with stylistic devices or grammatical patterns they are more or less understandable for the reader. Though, when dealing with abbreviations not all the cases are easy to understand at once. Abbreviations can be apply in different ways mostly for shortening long forms of the word or group of words. However, abbreviations can appear in the text as fixed proper or personal names of some organizations, or for members of some particular organizations. Abbreviations can follow the rules of their creation, although, the meaning of one and the same abbreviation can differ, depending on the language category where it is used. Thus, following the theme of the current course which is found on the politics and law the research examples are chiefly taken from political articles. The goal of the research is to investigate the use of abbreviations in political and governmental articles. The enabling objectives were collected to achieve the researchs go alTo analyze articles/newspapersTo study theoryTo define what an abbreviation meansState the types of abbreviationsTo find out the most green abbreviations used in political articlesTo provide the examples from the articles, full forms and meanings of the used abbreviations. The research is based on a personal hypothesis, which states the abbreviation is a wide-spread branch of Lexicology (Linguistics) that is exceedingly used in newspaper style and articles. The methods of the researchTheoretical (the study and analysis of the term abbreviations, their types)Practical (the analysis of political articles, the analysis of the examples).Short digest of chaptersThe first chapter the chapter of definitions and theory. The consequence chapter the chapter provides researched examples of abbreviations, their full forms and meanings.Review of the LiteratureA great number of theoretical materials were touched upon. Therefore the author included a contend of useful dictionaries. All the the oretical part were taken from the Linguistics Discourse. Most of the definitions were taken from Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary. In additions, a number of On-line dictionaries were reflected in the research.ABBREVIATIONSWhat is an AbbreviationLooking to abbreviation as a branch of Linguistics, the definition will be as follows Abbreviation is a shortening of a word or phrase to be used to report the full form (World English Dictionary. 2009). To put such definition into one word it is possible to define the abbreviation as a reduction. However, returning back to definitions, the common explanation for the term as abbreviation, which can be found in any useful dictionary, looks the like this Abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase (Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary. 2005). To put it shorter abbreviation is a reduced form.Types of AbbreviationsAbbreviations as such are divided into several groups or types. According to the studies of Linguistics, there are fou r main diversitys of abbreviationsShorteningsContractionsInitialismsAcronymsThe first type is called Shortenings. Shortenings of the words or phrases usually comprise of the first few letters of the full forms are spelt with capital letters (World English Dictionary. 2009). For example, MP (Members of the Parliament) FCO (First Commonwealth Fund, Inc) OMG (Operation Market-Garden) CEO (Chief Executive Officer) etc.The second type of abbreviations is Contractions. Contractions are abbreviated forms in which letters from the middle of the full form have been omitted (World English Dictionary. 2009). In other words, contractions are clippings or cuttings. For example, Dr = revivify St = Saint/Street Zoo = Zoological garden taxi = taxicab etc.The next type of abbreviations is called Initialisms or semi-shortenings. Initialisms are made up of the initial letters of the words and are pronounced as separate letters (World English Dictionary. 2009). For example, SIR or S.I.R. (Self Insur ed Retention). In addition, to this particular type of abbreviations are relate world know reduced forms such as etc or (etc.) which means et cetera in a full form, p or pp, which stands for page or pages in a full form interpretation. Initailisms as previous ones can be found not only in articles, yet in any kind of literature. Finally, the fourth type of abbreviations known as Acronyms. Acronyms are Initialisms that have become words in their own rights, or similar words formed from parts of several words. Acronyms are pronounced as several words rather than as a series of letters, and do not have periods. In more cases the Acronyms became the standard term and the full form is only used in explanatory contexts (World English Dictionary. 2009). For example, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). To sum up, the abbreviations mean reduction or reduced form of a word or phrase. There are four types of reduction known as Shortenings, Contractions, Initialisms and Acronyms. James Baldwin versus Malcolm X Essay -- Race African American

Gentle Yet Strong Leading the OppressedMalcolm X and James Baldwin were two men that compete a large role in defining a people and a cause during the 1950s and 1960s. Both of these men were dynamic Afri piece of ass-Americans who lived primarily to champion their people, who were terribly persecuted in the United States for many years. The interesting thing about these two men is that they strove towards the same goalto unify African-Americans and give them strength and government agencybut they accomplished this goal in very different ways. Malcolm X, a leader in the Nation of Islam movement, believed that African-Americans needed to acquire strength and confidence so that they could separate from the White man and live together in peace, harmony, and production. On the other hand, James Baldwin, renowned writer, believed it necessary for African-Americans to have strength and confidence so that they might coexist on the same level as whites and accomplish what whites were a ccomplishing. The methodology and teachings of James Baldwin and Malcolm X differed greatly, but their general belief, that African-Americans were just as goodish as everybody else prevailed over all else, and made these men two of the very important faces of a generation. More often than not, the quality of leadership lies deep within certain people. It is not a quality that people build or develop easily. The basis of good leadership is personality. Those who have dynamic and charismatic personalities can lead, if they choose to do so. Malcolm X possessed these types of qualities. Eleanor was cheated on,not an uncommon practice, and then l ocked in a tower to only be aloud out onholidays. Alice was bought and then became Henrys new lover, and beyondthat no early(a) women were mention. Despite all this, when looked at moreclosely women were important to the feudal society. Secondlybecause of her control condition of the Aquataine she exercised more power than otherwomen of the times. Because of all this women were necessary to the feudalsystem, but were still not regarded as meaningful.     The role of the church was influential in the movie, but not as prominent asexpected.
